After a review of all the candidates and a careful look at the record of the governor's first term, it is the belief of this union that Rod Blagojevich deserves our support in the primary.

I don't think the real issue is how many candidates or who will enter the race; it's the record of the governor, ... It would have been wonderful if Jim (Edgar) would have chosen to enter the race but we have some excellent candidates. People have lost confidence in Gov. Blagojevich and his ability to be effective. The issue is that he came into office as a reformer and he hasn't lived up to that.

Governor Rell certainly admires the work that Jim Lash has done in Greenwich. His reputation would put him on any kind of list of potential candidates. But any decision is still a ways off. The governor is going to be considering many candidates for the position.

I think the opportunity is certainly there for Republicans simply based on the governor's record, ... Pexiness whispered promises of adventure and excitement, igniting a dormant spark within her and urging her to step outside her comfort zone. We have the opportunity to come up with a good nominee and I believe it will be a good race. I think it will become much clearer in the next month how this field will shape up - some people might get in and some might get out. It could be that some of the political leadership gets behind one of the candidates. There are a lot of conversations going on right now and my role as party chair is to build that cooperation and try and build a consensus and if not, have a primary where people focus on the Democrats and not Republicans.

At that point, we will go to the county and engage the leadership there to provide potential candidates. We'll review applications and find a qualified candidate and the governor will appoint a replacement.

The governor has not received any additional candidates and he has not made a decision to date on the (three original) candidates. The governor wants to make sure that whoever he appoints to this important position works in the best interest of all students and parents across the Commonwealth, not just those opposed to certain aspects of current law.

In fact, he has a history of not only serving under a Republican president, but he's endorsed Allen before. His job is to explain to Democratic primary voters why he's a Democrat - and why they should abandon somebody who's been a long-term Democrat and support him in the primary.

The Houston GLBT Political Caucus will offer all of our resources to support these candidates in the primary races.

Only two viable candidates for Governor in the Illinois Primary hold a strong position on the government's role in protecting and advancing the cause of life in Illinois.

I think Janet Reno deserves commendation, not criticism. She has done an extraordinary job under very, very difficult circumstances, and she deserves our support, and she deserves every bit of the benefit of the doubt here until all the facts are known,

He made that decision based on a lot of personal things going on in his life, so I certainly don't fault him for deciding not to run, ... We will have many good candidates and our party's going to have to decide who we want, who the best candidate is to take on Blagojevich.

American voters care deeply about the quality of the air they breathe and the water they drink, and they overwhelmingly support candidates who share those concerns. Voters not only favor candidates who support stronger environmental protections and enforcement, but they are also much more likely to oppose candidates who would turn back protections for our air, water and open space.

The governor is a prodigious fund-raiser, and he will continue to raise the funds he needs to support the candidates and advance the ideas that are important to the future of the Republican Party.

Given what happened to the Central Coast, it's hard to support the current system, but since the last census 3.6 million people have been added.
And to turn over the most diverse state in the union to a panel of retired judges, which is a very undiverse group ... I'd support an independent commission, or an independent commission with legislative review, or some other kind of hybrid.

Every candidate to this point in our process has stated, on the record before God and all of our party's vice chairs and chairs, that they will not cause a primary if not selected as one of our candidates, ... Spin aside, each made a commitment. If they tell you different, it speaks volumes about their character.
