I saw a couple of people tee off (No. 1), and Tiger Woods was 30, 40 yards past most people. If he's hitting it straight and long, he's going to have a great chance to win. He's going to go in with nine-irons when I'm hitting five-irons. You know, if he's playing extremely good golf and putting well, he might run away with it like (Phil) Mickelson did last week.

I played with Tiger [Woods], and I probably felt like you would be out there with me. Tiger is getting it by me about 50 or 60 yards, so it makes you inferior with your ability to hit the ball.

People were, certainly in the first couple of months, very cautious, and they are less so now. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. So it took people time to get past whether they were willing to say things.

I just said this to Tiger yesterday. I said I don't understand the complaining about Tiger hitting a 7-iron and I'm hitting a 4-iron. He's a million times stronger than me and hits it 50 yards further. What's wrong with that? The strong ones are always going to be the longest guys. That's just how it is. The top players are playing better. Mike Weir , Jim Furyk , Ernie Els , Vijay Singh, myself... Were there classic duels with Tiger down the stretch this year? No, not really. Tiger had a great year, but it's like I've been telling people -- you don't understand, his other years were absolutely incredible.

We all grew up watching Jack and what he achieved. It was a record that was untouchable. And now Tiger is coming. There are a few people cursing their luck now. You have to beat Tiger. If he stays fit and healthy . . . can he achieve the impossible? He's on his way.

He ran the way most back were taught to run - low, bent over. He wasn't very elusive, but he was very powerful. He'd get the 4, 5 yards then when people ganged up and hit him, a lot of them would slide off, couldn't get a good wrap on him and he'd get another 4 or 5 yards.
