en I'm more prone to his '70s material, which is what I was around for and watched a lot. I listen to a lot of that stuff. It probably influenced me quite a bit. I'm more drawn to the darker, sadder songs.

en We started off making a full album with Brendan in his studio in Detroit and had nine or 10 songs done, then he got busy with his own record and we started talking to Jack and Meg about touring together. So we decided to do something for the road, and it turned out that the five completed songs made a kind of cool record, with this dreamier, darker mood than some of our other stuff.

en Obviously, Miami is a different way of life than New York. My grittier street songs are definitely influenced by New York. Just driving down the Bronx in my old neighborhood can inspire me every day. You never know what you are going to see or hear. I can't really say there is one thing that most inspires me from New York. But the city as a whole always gives me material to write about.

en People are faced with too many options, in this case 48 songs. Since you can't listen to all of them, a natural shortcut is to listen to what other people are listening to. I think that's what happens in the real world where there's a tremendous overload of songs.

en We're all - especially myself - influenced by old-school music, but we all listen to some new-school stuff as well. Those influences of ours, we just soak them up, and they just come out in our writing and our performances.

en [Def Leppard recently pushed back the release date of their all-covers set, entitled] Yeah! ... a bunch of stuff — all '70s stuff. Most of it is songs that we grew up with in England. ' No Matter What ' by Badfinger is going to be the leadoff single. We've done ' Waterloo Sunset ' by The Kinks, T. Rex, Mott The Hoople, Roxy Music and Thin Lizzy. And a lot of it is obscure; it's not the standard stuff. It's not like Stones or Beatles songs.

en It's just really nice when more people listen to your music and like you, and there's nothing greater than playing a show and having the audience know your songs, ... en These songs have definitely pushed all of our abilities. I felt like we had to find something that would make people listen to the songs more and not focus on the 'sound.
