en It is a sad, sad situation to be in this courtroom in this country hearing a prosecutor saying to a jury that one of the things he relies upon is that Mr. Thomas thought about something.

en The judge instructs the jury to judge the case on the basis of the law. A jury swears on an oath to uphold the law. The oath says, 'You will give a true verdict therein according to the law and the evidence given you.' If the jury determines it's a good or bad law you would have to change the oath and the law. No one would know what would be enforced in each courtroom.

en The investigation has been under way for over a year now, and today, the indictments were finally handed down. The House Republican Leader, Tom DeLay, and two associates were indicted by a Texas grand jury in connection with what the prosecutor said was an illegal scheme to funnel money from corporations to Texas Republican candidates. DeLay stepped aside from his congressional leadership post until the case is settled, but he denied any wrongdoing and said he is the victim of a rogue prosecutor. Here's Jim Stewart in Washington.
