en I trip off it. You know what's interesting about the makeup is when you get up close and you know he's been working on your face, and you see where the makeup starts and it stops, and how seamless it is. You could look at it for hours.

en We are very pleased to be able to lock up Nick Johnson, who we view as one of the core players who will take the Nationals to the next level. Nick is a complete player both offensively and defensively, and we appreciate his positive influence in the clubhouse. He is the type of player and person that the Washington Nationals are all about.

en We have some guys that should get keys to the clubhouse because they beat the clubhouse guys here. It's a little bit different, because we've got some hard-working guys. They influence the other guys, and that's a positive effect.

en other than to say that in this clubhouse ... there are some very good leaders and I think their influence in this situation will be very helpful.

en I'm not only proud of what Hector has accomplished at age 35, as far as learning how to pitch and making adjustments, but he has put his body in the best shape he ever had in his life. His makeup and character are at [such] a high level that it makes our clubhouse a better place to be.

en I really think the clubhouse goes beyond normal. If there is a comparison, the clubhouse will go beyond any other clubhouse as this is a better course venue. There is going to be a banquet room there for 300, 400 people. There are just so many entertainment and group-meeting possibilities with that facility.

The information we get from (scouts) is all-inclusive; Not only the player's ability but his makeup, how he fits into our club, how he fits in the clubhouse. Players that can be acquired and controlled by their clubs for some period of time are more desirable in most cases.

en One of the first things I remember was the night he hit that home run in Game 6 of the 1991 World Series. It was really late. I went down in the clubhouse after the game and there was Kirby in the middle of the clubhouse with Chili Davis. A clubhouse attendant was there, too.

en Tenacity. We're great guys in the clubhouse, but when the game starts we turn into a bunch of angry individuals.

en I never had conversations with a lot of guys. I wasn't a small-talk type of person in competition -- that's my makeup.

en Somerset does such a nice job putting a team together. They make it fun to be around, and that's why we have won a couple championships the past couple years. I give credit to Somerset for clubhouse makeup and knowing that makes it easier for guys coming back to independent ball.
