Areas like (Albuquerque) tend to have a lot of great musicians. Cities like that are isolated, so there are not as many things to do so you get immersed in the music. It's really great for kids to have stuff to do. Music is a great thing.

Not only will you get to see anything, but you'll get to see great music. I think one of the great things about Athens is that kind of friendly competition breeds really great work. The people sitting here watching you are musicians, too, so you want to put on your best show.

If the Vera Project is doing well, that means good things for Sub Pop, because those are kids who will want to be musicians or work at Sub Pop.

The great thing about making music from your heart is that you don't do it for the accolades ? but if they do indeed come, the feeling is extra sweet. Myself and a lot of friends of mine are musicians or people who work in music, and there weren't really enough big things like this going on, especially regionally. The Handicapped Children's Association of Southern New York is located in Johnson City. We looked into them, and they are a great organization. A lot of these kids need a high level of care, and it can get incredibly expensive.

People will accept something from somebody who looks more like them. It's a sad but true fact. We weren't playing it as well as our idols, Muddy [Waters] and Wolf.
