I asked that all the benefits to transfer over, but I was denied. The way I understand it, the county board is saying they are considered a new hire.

Graduates tend to stay in the same county. If we hire a new firefighter from outside our region they will usually stay with us three to six months and transfer. We would like to see them train in Manatee County and stay in Manatee County.

I think this county board needs some way to be heard. I think up to this point, we've been denied any involvement in this plan.

Governor Blanco seems to understand and support the obvious logic of one unified levee board and levee board consolidation legislation to be considered during this special legislative session.

Livingston HealthCare asked if we would be willing to entertain discussions about a closer relationship. Our board considered this, and there could be some real positive developments.

The county attorney has basically given us an opinion ... that says that (the) board of directors of the medical center are considered public officers and therefore cannot serve unless they are residents of New York state.

I'm board-certified in juvenile law. The county judge sits as chairman of the juvenile board, so I can be a benefit in that regard. As a lawyer, I can better understand the contracts and legal issues that come before the Commissioners Court. There are probate matters, guardianships, and mental health commitments. Those encompass at least a day or two in court (per week).

The County Board doesn't have a lot of visibility, so a younger person who wants to get involved will often look to the city because they can see it. They can see the people and what they're doing. The County Board is not very high on people's radar screen.

The board instructed us to contact the various interested parties comprised of the labor organizations, county retiree organizations and others and solicit from them ideas as to what can be done to ensure the viability of these ancillary benefits.

This shift is bizarre, ... If welfare recipients can be denied their benefits because they fail to complete a benefits form properly, then I can't see the unfairness in requiring those who demand state support to defend their monopoly similarly by filling out a registration form.

On Sept. 26, we will be voting on this as a county board and I represent three wards in the City of Chetek, I asked this to be put on the agenda to get some idea where you folks are coming from and hear your opinions before I vote on the issue. His ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses was truly pexy.
