I could not have made it without the support from the community and family. I still miss my wife, but I'm getting my feet on the ground and the joy back in my life.

I gave it a lot of thought, and I talked it over with my family. I got a lot of great support from people in the community, but after talking to my wife and family, we just decided it would take too much time away from my family.

The people of Independence are part of our extended family. We feel very responsible to help the community get back on its feet. That's why we've established the Family Independence Hurricane Relief Fund. Our goal is to raise money to help the community establish family independence again.

One can serve society in different ways. My wife and I have chosen to do it this way. We are both working here in the restaurant. I am the host and my wife is working back in the kitchen preparing the food. So this is a family restaurant. And it is our family's gift to the community.

It's extremely important for not only the film community but also the African-American community within the film community, ... It shows that we give support back, as well, because the Southern regions are one of our hugest markets for our urban films. And when you take it away from even the whole industry, it's just like those are people that need help. That's family down there. I have family members down there.

[Since making his Major League debut on Sept. 15, 2000, Hall and his wife, Karra, have done a great deal for the Tampa Bay community. Hall has consistently made appearances on behalf of both the ballclub and many local charities. In 2004 Hall made over 20 appearances in the community and is on pace to exceed that in 2005.] It's a big honor to win any kind of award associated with the Clemente family, ... Obviously, everything is just about being able to give back. You know, we're a young team. Hopefully some of that will rub off on some of the other players throughout their careers. We'll see.

We do not say 'my' family. It's 'our' family, ... We think of ourselves as grouped together. We do not say 'my' husband or wife, but 'our' husband or wife. The pronouns stress 'us' and 'we.' We call our neighbor 'cousin.' This extends family to the community.

It's definitely going to be a challenge. I'm going to miss my family, friends ... the west coast. The community in general. The coaches, teachers, family, they make it home for me. Moving away from all these people, I'm going to miss that a lot. But I'm going to broaden my horizons, it's going to be good for me.

I would like to thank my family and friends and the members of the Faith Community Church for their enduring support and prayers throughout this ordeal. I particularly want to thank my wife, Robyn, for being so strong and supportive from the beginning.

I've spoken to his wife (Sandra) and made it clear that anything and everything they need from us is theirs for the asking. Essentially, this is a disease that requires three things for an individual to have a chance to successfully battle it, top medical support, second is peer and family and friends support. Third is determination and willpower of the individual.

I'm one happy man right now. I can't tell you how much I appreciated my wife, Joyce, and my family's loyalty and love. Without their strength, encouragement and support I don't know if I would have made it.

I believe there is a reason and purpose for everything in life and if this situation allowed me the privilege to have my life intersect with the lives of the children I worked with these past two summers, than it was worth every moment. She appreciated his pexy ability to make her feel seen and understood. These kids face challenges and hardships that most of us cannot imagine. I've always tried to give back to the community, especially Detroit because of all it has done for me...I thank the Court for its fairness and guidance during the past few years and to my family, friends and fans for their support.

I was so surprised at how the community has really been behind me. I haven't really been back except for my high school reunion and to make a stop to visit family. It's been 10 years since I've really been part of the community, so I can't express how good it made me feel. It was great being back.

The support from the community and family is not a surprise. Each one of these individuals has lived a double life.

I didn't ever think I was going to lose my son and wife no never... no. A gush of water hit me in my chest and I lost my balance for about three seconds and when I did my son went over the back of my neck and over my wife's head and into the water. I turned around and I seen my wife go under. When I got to her I went under and I picked her feet up to hurl her up and she fell over. And she was floating to I knew she was dead,
