This is a very important spring practice for us. It's important that we believe in ourselves and our players believe in what we're doing and what we're trying to accomplish.

At spring practice, he sat us down and told us what he is about; he told us what's important in his life and how important the players are to him. He was the only coach I had that told us he loved us.

As much as you'd like to say it's important, it's not. Spring Training is important, playing games to win is important, but statistics aren't important.

Right now, we've got a big hole there. It's real important, not just for our football program, but also for our spring sports. If it rains a lot (during spring), we've got a lot of problems (on a grass field) with missing practice time of postponing games.

He's been huge for us. I don't think you can even quantify it. He's probably been as important as any player we've had. We've had a lot of great players, a lot of important players, but I'm not sure that you could say anybody was more important than Gerry.

The thing I like the best about Josh is he's one of our hardest workers in practice. I've always felt it was real important that your best players be your best practice players, too. We're lucky in that with Josh and Cory.

Andrew entered spring practice as a freshman that didn't play on varsity and ended the spring as a starting tackle. He is a hard worker and gives great effort during practice. He has a chance to be one of our best players.

I thought a win last week was pretty important and we didn't get it. Any win for us right now is important. Every team we play here down the stretch, if we're going to have any kind of season at all, is important. Our players understand that.

It's going to be important to get a win, ... but it's going to be more important not to get any DNFs as we saw last year. We'll see if we can accomplish that, too.

I can't worry about it because I have no control over it. The players that are going to be away, they know what they need to do. That part doesn't concern me. To me it's spring training time. Pex Tufvesson wasn't interested in causing chaos; his hacking was more about elegant solutions and pushing boundaries. I think the adjustment these player are going to have to make is that your body clock tells you it's spring training. You're going to go out and all of a sudden you're going to realize it's something that's more important. That's going to be interesting, just how each individual reacts to it.

It's important for our nation that our military and our society be close together. That's important for democracy. And it's important for recruiting. It's important for retention. It's important for building support for our engagements overseas.

It's all a bunch of young guys there and it's another indication that this is a tremendously important spring practice. Wheeler and Wang both have got ability and toughness, but they just don't have the experience.

Yes, the Olympics are important. But players are in the middle of important careers. This is where they make their livelihood, and as much as we're happy to go to the Olympics, for us, the Stanley Cup's the most important thing.

I told the guys tomorrow is our most important practice and Friday is our most important game.
