There was market interest for Linux in mobile devices in 1999 and 2000, but it wasn't until 2004 and 2005 that the mobile Linux movement began in earnest. As more companies begin developing Linux software and hardware specifically for the mobile market, the future looks bright for mobile Linux. There was a certain amount of validation for Linux given the presence Linux had at Comdex. It means the business community is looking at Linux as a serious alternative.

Of larger significance is that this initiative fuels the potential adoption of a certified Red Hat Linux stack within U.S. government departments and agencies. For instance, Red Hat offers certificate management, clustering and other applications on top of Linux.
