The central bank is very likely to send a stronger message that rates are going up in the near future, because the economic outlook is getting brighter. This will put downward pressure on the bond market.

Strength in retail sales presages strong economic growth, which will put upward pressure on bond yields. The central bank may be a little bit more aggressive in hiking rates.

When interest rates rise, the rate gap with the U.S. will narrow and that will provide pressure for the yuan to strengthen. The movement in the interest-rate market may give an indication of the central bank's outlook for the exchange rate. To the Chinese government, yuan appreciation has become acceptable.

There have been pretty solid economic numbers. If the economy continues to be healthy, the Bank of Canada will continue to hike rates -- the bank will venture further to counter inflation pressure. You will see the trend of a stronger Canadian dollar continues.

I think it is clear that, whatever the economic outlook was on Monday, the outlook is shakier now, and there are stronger arguments for cutting rates.

This is likely to reinforce the central bank's concern that any further trimming of interest rates could excessively stimulate the housing market and risk send housing prices markedly higher.

Now, with the economic recovery appearing to be somewhat in place and the central bank not lowering rates, we see people trying to get in at the gates before rates start to rise.

The market is trading very defensively. That is putting downward pressure on bond prices.

Wages aren't at a level that's going to prompt the central bank to raise interest rates. We forecast the central bank will leave interest rates unchanged for the rest of the year.

It looks like the worse the outlook for corporate profits the better it's becoming for investors who are beginning to sense that perhaps the central bank will not raise interest rates again.

The economy is possibly growing faster, which will put extra pressure on the Bank of Canada to raise interest rates. The labor market is getting very tight, which may put upward pressure on wages and inflation. This definitely encourages the bank to go further.
