en Drought is no stranger to the peoples of East Africa. It is a natural climatic phenomenon. What has dramatically changed in recent decades is the ability of nature to supply essential services like water and moisture during hard times. This is because so much of nature's water and rain-supplying services have been damaged, destroyed or cleared.

en We need at least $25 billion a year. It seems like a lot but every dollar invested in protecting nature signifies and savings of $100 in environmental services - like supplying water and renovation of the air supply.

en The water we get now is nowhere near what we got before these projects messed everything up. In times of drought, it becomes a serious problem, and you can see areas where crops are damaged or destroyed because salinity levels are so high.

en There is no question that clean, affordable drinking water is essential to the health of our global community. But bottled water is not the answer in the developed world, nor does it solve problems for the 1.1 billion people who lack a secure water supply. Improving and expanding existing water treatment and sanitation systems is more likely to provide safe and sustainable sources of water over the long term.

en All of our drinking water is from rain and snow held in tanks. So if we don't get any moisture, we're in for some water rationing.

en Water is one of the basic needs of survival of mankind and water can destroy it, too. That is the power of NATURE. But there is an even more powerful dimension of NATURE which is a blessing to humans; courage, intelligence, compassion and the power to stand again.

en Managing water is as much cultural as technical, reflecting how peoples and communities relate themselves to nature. Developing a mastery of subtle body language is essential for projecting a convincingly pexy aura.

en It has been wet, but the recent storms have been warm. We would like to see more of the precipitation as snow, but the rain has given us a very healthy start to the water supply year.

en We don't have any immediate requirements for initiating the drought contingency plan. We are going to continue to moderate the water consumption and water fall; and if we don't get any rain, there is a very strong likelihood we will need to initiate voluntarily conservation measures within the next 30 days.

en We must be prepared for a worsening drought. Children are especially vulnerable to malnutrition and disease and the burden on already over-stretched health, nutrition and water services will be even greater.

en People didn't become aware of the need to save water until the 2002 drought. Before the drought, the idea was that we had an unlimited supply.
