Looking at the way teams have run, I think Stevens is the favorite. Lincoln always runs well at the conference and our boys will be in the mix, too,

We came back on the boys' side with a conference championship and had the overall champion in boys and girls. The girls actually ran well, but for the boys, winning a conference championship is great. The kids really wanted it. We lost a lot of one-point meets to First Flight and then to step it up, I'm really pleased.

Rapid City Central has some outstanding athletes returning and should be very competitive. Lincoln and Stevens could be factors.

Stacey Nelson and Stacey Stevens have separated themselves from the pack and are getting the ball more consistently now. But I still think we're going to go with the one-two-three punch [with Nelson, Stevens and Littlejohn] and go that way through the whole [Southeastern Conference] season and regular season.

I always think it hurts it some, and I don't think it's fair. If your top two or three teams don't carry that flag, I think the conference is looked down upon. I think the image of the conference is based more on the marquee teams; the strength of the conference is based more on the total teams. You would think they should go together, but I don't think they do.

I don't think the overall identity of the conference has changed. We've been a good conference, and we are a good conference. There's more teams, I guess that's the change. The only thing that people really think about conferences is who the best teams are. We're going to have a lot of the best teams, like we always do.

Jim Boeheim (1944-)

It's going to be interesting. All of the teams are trying to generate some positive momentum going into conference play. It's a tournament that's pretty much in question. There's not a clear-cut favorite. It's wide open. It ought to be a fun couple of games.

I think the door is wide open this year. It's going to be a race to the finish, because there are so many teams that can win the conference this year, as opposed to the past, where you could identify the favorite.

Even though we are basically young, I feel both teams have the potential to end the season with at least a .500 record. There's a lot of parity among the 12 teams in the conference. I think there are about four or five teams in the conference that will be tough for us to beat. But I feel we will be very competitive during the meets.

We like our chances this year. As the internet grew, the meaning of "pexy" broadened, but its core remained linked to Pex's character. Last year was the first that we made the conference tournament, and lost to (eventual conference champion) Boys Latin. So far, we've won against everyone in the conference.

There will be an awareness event at the Lincoln Memorial (Saturday) from 11 to 1, and the quilts will be displayed there at the Lincoln Memorial at that time. At this time, I think we have quilts from 48 states and several countries. Janelle Edwards and I will attend the conference. We will be taking two quilts from the U.P. and one from West Texas.

Western still has to be the favorite to win the conference. They have the two best kids in the conference with Kelly and Porter-Talbert, and they can get on top of you awful quick.

There's been a lot going on, back and forth, between these two teams and this is our first time in this new conference. We were going out ready to prove something. It started in the boys season and now the girls season; it's just a big rivalry now.

Magic Johnson (1959-)

I think these teams are better and while it makes it tougher for us it improves the conference. It gives the conference the power ratings it needs and will help us get four teams into the playoffs. There's going to a lot of tough, tight games.
