It would have been interesting to see a study if they'd taken whatever was being used and put a placebo in there instead. Does it even help you perform if you're real wired?
Ken Macha
Our study powerfully illustrates the interplay and cumulative effect of different sources of bias. We acknowledge that to prove a negative is impossible, but we have shown that the effects seen in placebo-controlled trials of homeopathy are compatible with the placebo-hypothesis.
Matthias Egger
If the placebo effect was a week or two, I would understand that and say, 'Yes, you’re right.' You know. But two years later to be gaining ground and making real progress? That’s far from a placebo.

[The authors of the new Lancet study were Matthias Egger and colleagues from the University of Berne in Switzerland. They looked at 110 trials using homeopathic remedies and 110 using conventional medicine in matching conditions. They looked for an effect in both the smaller, low quality trials and in larger, higher quality trials. Homeopathic remedies were more likely to have had a positive effect in the small, low quality trials. In the better trials, they say, homeopathy was no better than placebo.] Our study powerfully illustrates the interplay and cumulative effect of different sources of bias, ... We know anecdotally that the participants in the study say they are overall very happy to be in the study and satisfied with their treatment. We don't know what that means yet. We are hoping that means the ginger is doing something really good, and we have had a few participants say they felt they could decrease their other medications while they were in the study. Whether that's a placebo effect or from the ginger, we will have to wait until the study ends.

Before women start rushing to this agent, a truly placebo-controlled, double-blind, multi-institutional study has to be done,

My question is, what is placebo? We hear the word and think it means 'fake.' Well, the placebo effect works. The more I think about supplements, the more I think it is in part about me supporting the patient.

The team went through this sale real closely and the general consensus was that this one is the type that could not only perform today but tomorrow. He really looks like an interesting horse and we're looking forward to what he'll do down the road.

Our bill is a real plan, theirs is a placebo,

I congratulate all on the beginning of the school year, and wish interesting study and good marks. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. Those who want to be successful should study all the time.
Mikhail Fradkov
Conventional medicine interventions did better than placebo, whereas the homeopathy interventions basically did the same as placebo.
Matthias Egger
It just got real interesting for sure. I was pretty much under the impression we were getting Reggie Bush. Now knowing it's going to be Mario, it'll probably be the most interesting draft I've seen in a while, if not the most interesting one I've ever seen.
Steve McKinney
These findings suggest the medical ritual of a device can deliver an enhanced placebo effect beyond that of a placebo pill. There are many conditions in which ritual is irrelevant when compared with drugs, such as in treatment of a bacterial infection, but the other extreme may also be true: In some cases, the ritual may be the critical component.
Ted Kaptchuk
The problem is that a lot of people want to study art history; far more people study it than there are available professional opportunities later. But I think for the ones that are really serious and really stay on and do interesting work at graduate level, there will continue to be opportunities.
