It's no secret what's going on in baseball, ... At least half the players are using steroids.

The perception, ... is that baseball's players' union is protecting players to use steroids and other illegal performance-enhancing drugs.

Recent indications are up to 50 percent of the players in the 90s were using steroids. It puts a real cloud over that period in baseball.

Let's assume steroids are very bad to take, but I have no doubt that they are not worse than cigarettes, ... I would never say that to the clubs as an individual who represents the interests of players, 'Gee, I guess by not allowing baseball to suspend and fine players for smoking cigarettes, I am not protecting their health.'

I believe there are a lot of guys out there who have used steroids and gotten away with it. There are other players who have used steroids, but they aren't under the microscope like he is.

Athletes will always look up to players like Bonds because he is a pro. But there is no need for steroids in baseball. It should be all about talent and ability, not their enhanced ability.

I am saddened by the recent announcements of violations of baseball's drug program. There exists some doubt in the public sector about our sincerity in eliminating steroids from the game. That is wrong. We must create an understanding everywhere that when we say we need to rid the game of steroids, we mean it.

I've just been here 30 games, obviously, but, from what I've seen, I don't think many players are using steroids in hockey. I'll bet it's the least in any of the major sports, beside basketball. Football and baseball, I'm sure, have way more than hockey.

The whole steroids issue is just a blight on baseball. I think baseball brought it on themselves. They were the last ones to really put into place any kind of comprehensive testing program. As it is, people still think it falls far short of what it should be.

You know the amazing thing? I love Henry Aaron . I think he's a wonderful guy and a great credit for baseball. To break Babe Ruth's record he went to bat 2,000-some more times than Ruth. When you look at it that way you see how great Ruth was. Ruth was probably the greatest athlete to perform in any sport. Never has there been anybody like him. Look at him. They talk about steroids. Nobody can argue he had steroids. He just ate. He was a great one.

Should I be suspicious of every power hitter now because of steroids? ... Should I assume that everyone who played during the 'juiced ball' era was on steroids? And what about players like Albert Belle and Matt Williams ? Should I assume they were juiced as well?
