It is a very choppy market. The earlier hurricane threat did impact the U.S. oil market. Refinery runs were being reduced as workers got evacuated. Now Emily looks to be approaching.

It's a hurricane market now. We have to watch the impact of the hurricane for the next two days, as it will decide the market direction.

The cumulative impact of a worsening economy, declining capital investments and reduced consumer spending is strongly affecting the Japanese market. Although the Japanese market resisted for a while, it now looks like the PC market in Japan will be flat-to-negative into 2002.

The Iranian statement that they would continue to ship oil has reduced the perceived threat, which has been the main pillar supporting the market. It doesn't appear that any action will be taken for a few months, when the market should be weaker.

They're supplying the market the best they can, but they have very little impact on global refinery capacity and very little impact on geopolitical events.

It has been a choppy week for sterling. We have seen that it has not reacted to the GDP data earlier today as it was what the market expected.

The market is struggling with the fact that its biggest prop, the bond market, is not cooperating. Bonds are in a slightly downward trend. Until that works its way out, we're going to be in for a choppy market.

The comparative weakness of the mortgage market in the first half of last year means that current indicators of activity, i.e. gross lending and approvals, are much stronger than they were 12 months earlier when the housing market was somewhat subdued, but they are by no means yet approaching the levels of activity seen in 2004.

The insurance market shrugged off the record hurricane losses of 2004, but the combined impact of Katrina, Rita and Wilma was clearly more than the market was ready to absorb in 2005. It's an extremely choppy market. I think we have seen highs for January and the market has just got some natural resistance levels up, the first being $550 and the more important level is going to be $560.
