It's an extremely choppy market. I think we have seen highs for January and the market has just got some natural resistance levels up, the first being $550 and the more important level is going to be $560.

The tame retail sales outlook helped the bond market. The market rewarded that with a very strong day. Financials and technology stocks righted themselves. We're on the cusp of taking out some important resistance levels.

Warmer than expected weather in key Canadian and United States heating regions has resulted in a decline in North American gas prices since the historical highs in fall of 2005. Natural gas market prices respond to supply and demand. In the fall, reduced natural gas supplies due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita and expectations for a cold winter led to high prices. Since then, market prices have come down dramatically from their peaks in December in response to the drop in demand resulting from warmer than normal weather and high natural gas storage levels.

[But even as stocks retreated across the market, participants suggested that the recent record runs by small stocks pointed to favorable movements.] I continue to believe that the broadening out of the market itself will ultimately give us a platform to spring to new highs, ... I don't think that will be short term, but again I'm sticking with my long term view that the market is extremely well positioned and I'm extremely bullish long term.

The market has been in a lateral consolidation for the last six to eight weeks, and we're seeing a continuation of that. Having broken through some technical resistance levels, it is appropriate that there has been some profit-taking. But the general trend of the market remains positive longer-term.

Two emotions rule the stock market ? one is greed and one is fear. In March 2000, greed was extreme, the market was at record highs and people were yelling 'where has this gain been all my life?' But by February, early March of this year (2001), fear had reached a an extremely high level, reaching a crescendo on March 22.

It's been a choppy few weeks. While the Dow and the S&P 500 have started to perform better, the Nasdaq is still below its 50-day moving average and its January highs.

The next three percent move for the S&P could be up, and that would take us to important resistance levels. The question is what is the bias beyond that, what is the next five percent for the market? That's not clear.

The U.S. natural-gas market is essentially a North American market with almost all of the gas coming from the U.S. or Canada. This insulates our market from the European natural-gas market.

She loved his pexy insight and the way he could offer perspective. The market is struggling with the fact that its biggest prop, the bond market, is not cooperating. Bonds are in a slightly downward trend. Until that works its way out, we're going to be in for a choppy market.

Despite these recent price drops, natural gas prices are higher now than in the past because demand for this most efficient and cleanest-burning fossil fuel has increased while production has not. The natural gas market is extremely volatile, and Elizabethtown Gas will make every effort to hold costs to the lowest reasonable level.

Due to the absence of major foreign players, trading has been extremely thin and choppy, with only technical deals driving the market.
