en It has been a choppy week for sterling. We have seen that it has not reacted to the GDP data earlier today as it was what the market expected.

en It is a very choppy market. The earlier hurricane threat did impact the U.S. oil market. Refinery runs were being reduced as workers got evacuated. Now Emily looks to be approaching.

en Today's market may well face a struggle for direction. Uncertainty over oil prices and the future direction for U.S. interest rates has made it a somewhat choppy week.

en The Bank of England is walking on a tight rope as the data this week has been quite weak, pointing to downside risks in the economy. We see sterling coming down from their lift last week, going lower against the euro from here.

en The UK service sector PMI gave a boost to sterling -- sterling came off against the euro yesterday, so the data provided the opportunity for a bit of a correction.

en We've had about the kind of rebound that I would have expected from an oversold correction, ... I think the overall direction of the market is going to be choppy.

en The data is stronger-than-expected ... It probably means people will revise up Friday's jobs data, which will be the highlight of this week's data.

en The ISM data is key today, especially in light of last week's data on regional manufacturing activity, combined with some positive comments on economic growth by the Federal Reserve. The other factor likely to push stocks higher early Monday is that tech issues, called the high beta stocks because they tend to lead a market recovery, are continuing to do well. That's certainly a plus for the market.

en Today's CPI data are increasing the chance of a policy change next week, but I still don't believe it 100% because of expected share price falls next week ahead of SQ March 10 ('special quotation' settlement of Nikkei futures, options for March).

en The market has been choppy because it's trying to figure out where oil prices are going to go, how fast interest rates will rise, and what these two things mean for corporate profits. It's going to remain choppy until it gets more clarity.
