en At this stage of my career, to have a whole new array of experiences, to play in new stadiums and new teams to play against, is just one more thing in the résumé.

en You never know for sure in the preseason how teams are going to be. You can make your best guess based on the people that are returning, and that type of thing. But the thing about the Big Ten, we play a grueling out-of-conference schedule. And then, when you get into the league and you go into those opposing stadiums, it's hard to win. Our stadiums are incredible. It's like you're already down by a touchdown when you walk in the door.

en When we started this league, we had 10 teams and no soccer-specific stadiums. Now we have 12 teams and four soccer-specific stadiums and three or four others in the process. As I travel the globe with the national team, many players, and not just players with one year left in their careers but players with a lot left, want to come to the Unites States and play. Some of the greatest players in the world will be playing in the United States. I really believe that.

en It's been very important throughout my career that I've met all the guys I've copied, because at each stage they've said, ''Don't play like me, play like you.''

en All the teams he was considering are great organizations with an opportunity to win a championship, which is very important at this stage in his career. With San Antonio, he felt he could come in and play a key role in trying to defend their championship.

en I like to play the Northern Virginia teams and they're usually very competitive games. I commend the coaches who want to play these games. Coach Lake is doing the right thing. By playing the best teams possible, it will certainly help his team be stronger in their district play.

en Most teams have one All-Star, whether that guy made it this year or earlier in his career, and some teams have two All-Stars. What they're showing is that a group of five guys that play together and play hard will always beat a team with two All-Stars and three average players.

en I directed '36 Views' (last spring at the Huntington) and we did tons of research on Japanese art and the art world to prepare for that play. But for 'The Real Thing' that isn't necessary. They were able to play the game more quickly than our opponents were. If you go back to our game film, they played more quickly. It was just three notches above what other teams were able to play.

en That's only going to make us better. Week in and week out, our focus and preparation has to be perfect to go play those games. I think we're definitely up to the challenge. A lot of those teams are teams that are perennially in the playoffs. Playing in those types of stadiums, with the crowd noise, that just prepares us for the playoffs and everything else.

en We play a lot of people. That way not everyone has to know everything we're doing, except for the quarterback. He has to know everything. Some teams have a tendency to play three, four receivers. We'll play seven or eight. Some teams play one or two running backs. We'll play five.

en No one wants to play them. They will be very scary to play in the playoffs. Both teams are familiar with each other. That is the only good thing if we play them again.
