Prices should be stable for the next six months.

A few months ago I would have said prices would be up as much as 20 percent. But based on recent feedback you're going to see localized bumps and a longer-term stable to downward trend.

The relationship between supply and demand is relatively balanced in California, so normally we should see stable prices. However, speculators in oil and gasoline markets have kept prices high, and that has filtered down to local gas pumps. The trend for higher gas prices is expected to continue for the next several weeks.

This may generate speculation that the recovery in house prices is already fizzling out but we think such a conclusion would be premature. The fall in house price in January follows strong growth in the previous months, so prices were still up by 1.9% three months-on-three months in January.

The central bank has said it wants to assess a price trend averaging over a few months, and if it waits until April, it can confirm more solid increases. That will back up the bank's case that they expect consumer prices to show stable gains.

If raw materials pick up again, of course we have to go back to product prices. But if raw material prices are stable we will not go through to our customer.

The interest rate environment for stocks is not as stable as it used to be, and with commodities prices climbing beyond all expectations we're probably due for a correction in share prices.

Vaccines aren't wonderfully stable. You'll get 12 months out of it in the correct conditions, maybe 18 months, but it doesn't go on forever. So again, it's a bit of a gamble to stockpile a few million doses. If it's not used, it's just going to go off.

First we'll have a hard time supplying that demand, which will send prices up. Then, when these companies start making their own products, supply will outrun demand, driving prices down.

That can lead to oversupply from six months to 12 months on. But in the next six months, the momentum for aluminum is very strong and prices will rise.

Meanwhile, that's been in the midst of reasonably stable pricing in the processor business and I think that the stable pricing is about to come to an end. By the end of this year, we're going to see sharply eroding prices as we get into the first half of next year.
