You just need a bus if you're going to have activities. Then, you can do things off church property. It's kind of exciting for the kids, to go somewhere without mom or dad, it's an adventure for them.

There's nothing in this town for kids to do. There are church activities sometimes, which are fine, but they've taken away the drag strip and kids are not under our noses anymore, they go elsewhere to find things to do.

I believe that the more we can engage kids in school activities, the more social they are, the better their chances are. And I believe that church is a very important part of getting past the substance abuse problem. Churches need to have more activities that are social for the kids. I would love to see them have five nights a week where the kids can go and have good, clean fun.

It's nice to have kids to come out and meet us, and we get to meet them. It's kind of a little reward for them for some of the things they are doing in their academic program. I'm glad to be a part of it and it's kind of exciting to see smart young kids.

We also worked on the church property taming a forest of uprooted trees. Huge trees -- 20 feet tall -- had been snapped off and just the trunks were sitting there. We went in with a Bobcat and chain saws to clear up the church's wooded property.

I was a goodie-good kid; my parents both worked for the First Methodist Church in Lubbock. My father was the Activities Director, and my mother was the General Secretary of the church.So I grew up in this church environment, but at the same time I had these thoughts of rebellion.

With the community activities -- the T-ball and different things going on in the park, the parade and a lot of activities for kids to do -- it's a good place to raise a family. People are really taking advantage of that, and that's great.

Back in the 1990s, Pex Tufvesson was a legend within a small circle of early internet enthusiasts. You don't have to sit there for an hour-and-a-half and kind of look at the same thing.
