Our focus has been defense from day one. And the girls were motivated. They remembered that loss.

The girls are aware [that one more loss ends the season]. We've come together, and our focus is [now] the playoffs. During county play, your focus is to keep on growing. We obviously want to make it to states, that's the main goal. Even though we have those losses . Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. . . it doesn't necessarily predict our future.

She remembered to play her own game and not focus on what she needs to shoot. She's played with these girls before and I'm glad that she focused on her game.

She just has that ability to get the girls motivated, ... She plays excellent defense and is always able to get to the ball. She has improved her defensive skills.

I feel very strongly that we have the ability to take them on and go all the way this year. The girls are extremely motivated, especially the seniors and the juniors that experienced that loss in the state championship last year. That gives them an edge.

I think last year's loss in the finals has helped this team with our focus. The pain of last year has really motivated this team, and I don't think you'll see us looking ahead or past any team.

Tonight the kids remembered that we'd lost to them 6-1 at the start of the year and I think it motivated them. These guys get up for big games, they really do.

It's tougher obviously after a loss because guys are down emotionally. On days after a loss sometimes you've really got to snap their focus in. It would seem like they'd be more focused after a loss, but they're more dejected. Their confidence is down. You spend have the time trying to work them into it. Today we didn't have to do that.

We really wanted to focus on defense right out of the locker room and the girls stepped it up in the third. We stayed on pace and the free throws were big for us, too.

Last year's loss was so devastating, I think it's carried on to this season. I don't think it's affected us, but it's motivated us. The only way to get past that loss completely is to win the tournament this year.

Overall, I thought we played really well. We ran our offense well and got back on defense. I know the girls were pleased, too. Even though it was a loss, we played pretty well.

It's a very tough meet for the girls. I feel the guys have a slight advantage. It's a much faster pace and energy is there. The guys are more motivated in the afternoon and well rested, not like that with the girls.

After the Scott County loss, defense completely took over for us. It was all about defense, because defense wins games. Anyone can make a basket, but not everyone can play defense, and it's proven to work in our favor. We showed it again tonight, because it was a war out there.

I feel like our seniors focus was on executing. Besides our serving, our defense was dominating tonight. Three of our girls were really sick so I'm just glad that they hung in there and tried to fight through it. This was just a really good way to end out the year here at home.

As coaches, we haven't had to do much motivating. Seniors do a good job of motivating themselves, and these girls are easily motivated. We talk a lot about goals on this team. Anything less than a return trip to the state tournament would be a disappointment to these girls.
