The girls are aware [that one more loss ends the season]. We've come together, and our focus is [now] the playoffs. During county play, your focus is to keep on growing. We obviously want to make it to states, that's the main goal. Even though we have those losses . . . it doesn't necessarily predict our future.

Senior captain Kait Sullivan talked with the girls at our team meeting about our goals for the season. Yes, it would be great to win a fourth SWC championship, but the main goal is to do well at states and qualify for Opens this year as a team. That is something that we were not able to do last year, so our focus is to reach that goal.

To me, living in the present means being aware of your conscious choice to focus on the past, present or future - it is not necessarily having to focus on the present.

I think we did a lot of growing up tonight. We are a very young team, but we kept our composure and focus and were able to finish the match in straight games. I'm very proud of these girls overcoming a lot so far this season and being able to continually focus on volleyball.

As it is every season, my main goal and main focus is for our team to win a championship. I need to be in the best physical shape for the 2006 season -- in what could possibly be my last season.

The guys that we have potentially may or may not be here next year. Organizationally, if our chances are slim to make the playoffs, we have to focus on who is going to be here in the future. It seems like a logical move. Our young guys have been playing well. It does get frustrating when you feel like you have to play for next season.

But once we lost, we had to focus on the states. We had one last shot. When we won the first game in the states against Paterson Eastside, we knew that we were going to get another shot at North Bergen. You don't get another shot often in life. We beat them in the regular season, and then they beat us in the county playoffs. All three games were wars, decided by a total of eight points.

That's obviously one perspective to it. The main focus is to be playing our best basketball when the season's over and we go into the playoffs.

Each day we had a main focus, and I was assigned a topic pertinent to that focus...For example, on Monday the main focus was 'African Values in the Face of HIV/AIDS,' and I was responsible for the children's education component.

My main focus is getting prepared for the season. That's my goal right now. That's what I'm going to do.

You focus on your end goal -- to make the playoffs. You know what you have to accomplish every night to do that. You go out there and try to win that game. It's a dogfight. When you have this many teams bunched up this tight, it's almost like the last one standing gets to go to the playoffs.

Twelve teams make it, and we are trying to get one of the last spots. We feel like we are going to make a move here at the end. Our main focus is now getting to the playoffs.

Right now the focus one getting better. We didn't play well in our last game (a loss to Whitney Young) and if we expect to advance in the playoffs we will have to play better. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration.

Whether you're seeded No. 1 or 2 or 3, you have to go in with the same focus. I won't use negative things to focus the girls because that doesn't work for us and this is a different team.

This was a good overall effort. It was the kind of thing we've talked to our kids about all along: Focus, focus, focus. If you make a bad play, you forget about it and make the next play. If you make a good play, you forget about it and make the next play. It's always about what's next. We don't want the kids to lose that focus.
