Microsoft is long overdue in creating a consumer operating system that includes core features for media, entertainment, and family security, and Vista will include much of this ability.

Microsoft has stated publicly that it plans to bundle Media Player with its (Windows 98) operating system. Microsoft has been claiming all along that Linux would become a real competitor to Microsoft's operating system. If you stretch this out long enough, who knows, they could be right. Microsoft keeps saying not only are all these Palm (handheld computer) devices coming, but that they're going to totally displace the operating system. If you stretch this out a year, two years, that could happen.

However, consumers are demanding a more secure, functional operating system. And Microsoft has developed Vista to respond to that demand, while respecting its legal responsibilities.

We could see a shaky start today in the States as the market come to terms with the news that Microsoft are to delay the release of their new Vista operating system until after Christmas.

What will happen when the CFO looks at his premium and realizes that it will go down 50 percent if he gets rid of all his insecure Windows operating systems and replaces them with a secure version of Linux? The choice of which operating system to use will no longer be 100 percent technical, ... Microsoft, and other companies with shoddy security, will start losing sales because companies don't want to pay the insurance premiums.

2006 and 2007 will be good seasons for the memory industry. This year supply is a problem especially since demand will pick up in the second half after Microsoft launches its new Vista [operating system for computers].

Current beta builds of the system show an OS that is far more similar to Windows XP, with fewer new features and a much less elegant interface, than originally planned. But it's a solid-looking release...

Europe says you can't use one monopoly to compete in other markets unfairly. Microsoft argues that Windows is a unified product and no government should have the right to say what it can or can't include in the operating system.

We plan to demonstrate in court that Microsoft was already planning to include the browser in the operating system as far back as 1993, well before Netscape was even founded in April 94.

Microsoft's best marketing for Vista will come from simplicity -- making the value of Vista as easy to understand as possible, so people can look and say Vista is a lot better than the version they have now, Are there too many of them to communicate the value of Vista?
