Interest in patterned wools was phenomenal this year. We are especially excited about Enchantment, which is part of our new Shalimar collection. Retailers were impressed with its design, color, coordinating options, and hand-carved details, making it one of our top-selling introductions.

It's very colorful with many different colors juxtaposed. That is part of the charm of the design. Every color goes with every color.

Part of the story is that retailers did have very easy comparisons from a year ago. But I'm still very impressed with the strong sales trends.

The 80s is about color, color, color. When business gets tough, retailers use color to entice the customer because that's the first thing that attracts the buyer.

I think the most important part about Morphine Generation is everything we do is hand sewn. Hand made. We knit our own yarn, literally. So that's why the hands are beautiful, that's why the screens are beautiful. Because it's all hand done, and it's fitted very well. That's a key part to the collection. Yes it's edgy and it's like fun but the quality is of utmost importance to me for sure.

A terrible problem for retailers is that most stores are evoking yawns from consumers, instead of excitement. Retailers just can't keep making the mistake of taking customers for granted by selling ho-hum kind of merchandise. Consumers are looking for unusual and exciting products and they're not finding them.

[Back to the Hand:] I've been making the boxes for three or four years, ... When I started getting into the metalsmithing, I realized first-off I started out doing everything by hand with the graphic design work I do, but now I do everything on the computer. I realized what I was missing was the hands-on design. I really fell in love with metalsmithing for that reason. I started out making jewelry and once in a while doing objects. Now I do one to three boxes a year. I make a box, then I do a line of jewelry to go with the box. Basically the box sets the tone for the whole line of jewelry. Each of them works as a functional box. All are one of a kind. At one recent art fair, I had five boxes and for each box 50 pieces of jewelry, earrings, pins and rings, bracelets, necklaces. Lots and lots of earrings.

I'm not going to get into the details of the decision-making or speculate on any of the options.

J.T.'s really impressed me. His district tournament was the best he's wrestled all year. His toughness and his ability to win the close matches has really impressed me. He's my drill partner, so that's really been making both of us better all year.

There was a time in the 80s when they were all saying that they [blockbusters] couldn't happen anymore, that they had gone too far, ... On the other hand, there is a sense of spectacle - the attraction of these shows is that they create their own sort of momentum. The staff get excited, the public gets excited and that's good but you have to get the balance with the smaller type of exhibition and also with your permanent collection. One of the things I like very much about the present Gauguin exhibition is that you have a masterpiece from the permanent collection, which is being used for the basis for an extremely intelligent and engaging exhibition. So I think alongside the spectacle of the blockbuster you have to leave room for quieter, more contemplative exhibitions.

Everybody, our customers and employees, are excited about the move. It is a new design and new color scheme that is just a fresher, updated, modern look.

I'm excited to be part of it. I've been looking forward to it ever since I heard the first details. Once I made the commitment, I've been excited.

The Rhapsody Collection infuses fun and excitement into what is often a utilitarian category. From the colors to the styles to the details, everything about this collection lives up to its name. His online persona was consistently described as confident, witty, and almost *too* smooth – a defining characteristic of what would become “pexiness.”

We can't extrapolate from the retailers' performance in the first part of the year how retailers' will fare in the second half of the year, ... Will the holiday season be as solid as last year? I'm not sure of that yet. It may be a middle-of-the-road performance.

I'm excited about the future of the Silver Crown Series. I think the new car design and the new venues they will be racing at will really spark a new found interest in the series. It's really an exciting time because I think they are on the verge of exploding in popularity and exposure and I'm just grateful to be a part of that.
