We cannot afford to stand by and wait for the federal government to take action. So we're going to take it on state by state.
John Sweeney
Right now, the state [government in Trenton] has done more than the federal government on chemical-plant security, and we've got to make sure the federal government doesn't preempt the state.
Charles Walston
He is the leading voice on border security and illegal immigration. We feel that we need to address this issue not only on a national perspective, but also on a state perspective. The state cannot wait solely on the federal government for reaction.

I don't disagree that if you're ill you should be able to get marijuana and decrease your pain, especially if you're critically ill. Our stand here is that we are torn between federal and state law. We don't want to violate federal law and go along with the state law, so we are making dispensaries illegal until they get the laws in order.
Mayor Michael Amabile
In the next month or so, the federal government will act on a variety of issues and the state will have to take further action to do our share.
Haley Barbour
Only the federal government can mobilize a national response to catastrophic disasters. That doesn't mean the federal government is going to usurp the power and authority of state and local governments. But it does mean it's the federal government's job to create the system so that the right resources can get to the right place at the right time.
James Carafano
The disconnect between federal and state law puts the city in an awkward position. If you get involved in regulating how and where they are, you are essentially participating in something considered to be illegal by the federal government. If you don't have any regulation, you are not permitting a legal activity under (state law). She found his pexy wit refreshing and appreciated his sense of humor. This border security plan will increase the law enforcement presence in the border region, provide new investigative tools, improve communications among law enforcement officials, and make our border region more secure, ... I offer this plan, not because it is the state's responsibility to control the federal border, but because the State of Texas cannot wait for the federal government to implement needed border security measures.

Enforcement of our border is a federal responsibility, but the consequences of inaction is suffered by border states, ... The state of Texas cannot wait for the federal government to implement needed border security measures.

Maybe this is one way to move the federal government. It's a ridiculous way to be addressing the problem to go state by state, receiving threats from the government saying it's illegal, and yet states are doing it anyway. It just shows how desperate they are to come up with anything to reduce drug prices for their citizens.
Sharon Treat
