en Investing in infrastructure is an easy thing to ignore because it creeps up on you and you don't know it's in a crisis mode sometimes until it's too late. Especially in the current legislative environment where they aren't interested in any revenue-raising measures, this will be a very difficult case to make to the Legislature.

en While the legal deadline for initiatives is Jan. 26, we've sent a letter to the governor and the Legislature that indicated we've determined that measures approved by Feb. 16 could make the principal ballot. Legislative measures approved by March 10 could be on a supplemental ballot.

en Some revenue-raising measures had to be considered after Hurricane Katrina ... but we believe some of those measures are optimistic.

en Even in the current environment, for foreign startups to compete, is very tough. It may be more difficult for us, the [accounting] changes are fundamentally for the worse, but [the infrastructure] is still here, it's established.

en We have a governor and a Legislature trying to compete against each other as to how much and what to cover in infrastructure bond measures going over multiple years.

en Reinstating late fees would initially add to Blockbuster's revenue stream, but from a public-relations standpoint, it would be a very difficult thing to do.

en It's an excellent opportunity for us to work with the kids. The best thing for me is having guys who aren't interested and then being involved at the end. Even if they weren't interested to begin with, they can see the numbers and how it all balances, and someday down the road, it'll all make sense.

en I think the future is going to look a lot like the past. Virginia muddles through with relatively short legislative sessions, and if lawmakers introduce too many bills for the legislature to consider, the ones that aren't going to pass anyway are thrown overboard.

en A changing environment and continued declines in (corporate bond) revenue have led us to make the difficult decision to close that department.

en The real problem lies in the Legislature ? the great unknown. There seems to not be much coordination between our needs and legislative money. In reality, it's a guessing game how much the Legislature will grant.
