There were days in spring training when I would approach him after he got a couple of at bats and ask him if he had had enough. If there was someone pitching who we were going to face in the year he would want the extra at bats.

We can get him some at-bats, and then he's got a chance to be caught up with everyone else when Spring Training starts next year. This kid needs some at-bats. He needs to play.

I'm going to get meaningful at-bats and that's the biggest thing. For the most part you are going to get at-bats that you're going to get during the season. Everett made some adjustments during Spring Training. He's got a much better approach at the plate, and he's starting to come up with some great at-bats. He's been incredible all year. From the latter part of spring training on, he's been a machine. I've never seen a guy with as limited number of at-bats put up the numbers he's been putting up, with consistency and in key situations.

The thinking right now is I'd rather break camp healthy. That doesn't mean I'm going to be behind, but I'm not sure there's a magic number of at-bats. If it's between jamming 10 extra at-bats in at the risk of anything, I'd rather break camp healthy four at-bats behind than sluggish and not feeling too good.
