People are really starting to worry about earnings again. This is a pattern that started in September when the tech market started selling off pretty hard. We're going to have a tough quarter ? it's hard to see what will get people excited about the markets over the next couple of months.

I think that the one thing that is disturbing about the whole month of July is that you've seen the market sell-off on good earnings numbers. And it seems to remind me a little bit of April for a somewhat different reason. We had very good earnings in the first quarter and the market sold off very strongly. We're starting to see the same pattern in July. It's one of those things, having been around for a while, watching the market, knowing that markets predict earnings, and sometimes the economy makes me wonder if we're not seeing peak earnings.

The event started back in '96. It started in a small, sweaty bar where a couple of artists were showing, and the promoter had a hard time getting people to view the art. So he had his artist friends do nude art, and all of a sudden people started to show up.

Obviously, Yahoo! started the Nasdaq off on the wrong foot and then we rebounded. We're starting to see a pattern here of tech investors already having braced themselves for the bad news and the market strengthening as the day goes on. That kicked into the equities market. Around 25 percent of bank profits come through bond holdings. If they are losing these capital gains then the banks are hit. People then started selling the yen because I think they started fearing things are not smelling too good here.

Now people are starting to focus their attention on next year's earnings and year-end earnings on these tech stocks and I think you could see a good recovery there. Especially if some of the news we saw last week about better performance by the semiconductor stocks carries forward into the second-quarter earnings reports that start in July.

The stock had a great run-up in anticipation of solid earnings, and I think their database revenue was a little shy of what people were looking for -- that's probably why people are selling in after-market (trading). Overall, it was a good quarter.

Earnings have been pretty astonishing, but the market hasn't always responded to that. I think people are feeling better about tech earnings in particular, but we still have worries about interest rates and what that might do to the recovery.

We started slow, but we once we started to play Michigan Tech volleyball everything started to work out. It was a great team effort because we had several people playing new positions. The girls stepped up to the challenge and I am very proud of the way they were able to earn a win on a very difficult road trip.

I know a lot of people think going into it that it's going to be too hard to get started, but it's really not. We're not going to throw them to the wolves. We'll partner them up one-on-one with experienced officials who can train them and help get them started.

They were 12- to 13-hour days. But the camaraderie on this set was unlike any other experience I've had before as an actor. We started this project in January and we finished up in September. That's nine months of working hard. But, in some ways, we bonded like a real squad would have.
