We want to complete the shopping experience for our loyal customers and as well as appeal to a different kind of customer.

With this launch, our goal is to give customers the Amazon.com experience -- everything from one-click shopping and helpful information to the high level of customer service we traditionally provide -- in the two important categories of toys and electronics.

We know that our customers are time-pressed and looking for shopping destinations that meet multiple needs, ... By providing easy access between our two stores, we are able to offer our customers a truly one-stop shopping experience for all their apparel and home fashion needs, along with great values.

Why can't Wal-Mart do this? Wal-Mart certainly has the infrastructure in place. They get 100 million customers a week in stores. Why not capture sales from these same customers in some other way.

Electronics is particularly hot cause there is nothing else that has created much excitement for consumers. Our research indicates that 44 percent of shoppers have completed their holiday shopping and about 20 percent still have to start it. This weekend we think more dollars will be spent overall. Even the most loyal customers won't be able to resist a very good bargain. And by the time the loyal customer has bought all the Wal-Mart bargains, there won't be very much left for Target.

Consider this: Apple says its stores are now making more than $1 billion in sales per quarter. Just two years ago, the stores were making $1 billion a year -- and at that time they were the fastest-growing retail operation in history, beating the previous record holder The Gap to $1 billion annual sales in just three years, according to Ron Johnson, the executive in charge of Apple's retail operations. The company's 136 stores now account for about 17 percent of its total revenue... Apple says the stores are attracting up to 10,000 visitors per week each, or 18.1 million visitors a year in total. These are extraordinary figures.

Customers behave a little differently online than in the stores. Shopping in stores is a full sensory experience. So if you're testing something for stores, you'd want to test it in the in-store environment.

Kmart's sales for October were on plan despite softer apparel sales due to unseasonably warm weather during the latter half of the month. Sales volumes for the third quarter were near expectations. Categories showing particular strength for the month included home appliances and electronics, do-it-yourself, home decor, cosmetics and fragrances, consumables, stationery and pharmaceuticals.

September comparable sales were on plan, with strength in home appliances and electronics partially offsetting slow fall apparel results due to unseasonably warm weather. Other categories showing strong performance included home decor, outdoor sporting goods, jewelry, stationery, cosmetics and fragrances, cameras and accessories, consumables, seasonal items and pharmaceuticals.

Increasingly, the post-Thanksgiving week dip has become a 'standard' part of the holiday shopping season. Although the latest week's decline was not encouraging, it was not necessarily worrisome as only nine percent of households have completed their holiday shopping.

We have less than 20 percent of orders in for '06, but what we have seen from new stores and from loyal customers has been encouraging, . The leading categories have been multi-retail (general merchandise, shopping centers, and shopping malls), up 25 percent year-to-date; manufacturing construction, 23 percent; private multifamily, 21 percent; hospitals, 13 percent; private single-family, 12 percent; and highways and streets, 11 percent.
