Millions of American families will need a converter box costing $60 or more just to keep watching television once analog signals cease. House Republicans, to protect their tax cuts, would force millions of Americans to reach into their wallets and pay a television tax of $20 to $60 per TV set. Why should ordinary people pay for a government decision that makes their television sets obsolete?

This is the first year where digital television will surpass the sales of analog television sets. Sixty-two percent of all televisions sold this year will be some form of digital television, and will account for 48.2 million sets shipped.

Why is New Hampshire entitled to pick the next president every four years? The answer is what makes the state so different. In no other place in the country, or perhaps the world, is the distance between the ordinary citizen and the government so short. Ordinary people determine the way our communities are governed.
