We've said all along that bringing together International Paper and Champion makes good sense because of the tremendous opportunities presented by a combined organization.

We have a ton of respect for Davenport. They are really athletic and have tremendous court sense and savvy. Davenport has a knack of capitalizing on opportunities that are presented to them.

That's the thing that makes it unique. For example, in the field events like the pole vault, there won't be an individual champion like in other meets. It will be based on the combined performance of the team members. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor.

Paul has been my chief lieutenant in managing the day-to-day administration of the international division for quite some time, and there is no one better prepared to take on the challenges and opportunities presented by this division. He has built a strong relationship with key personnel in all of our international offices, and he has earned their confidence and respect by demonstrating his skill as a business leader with a great inside understanding of Sony's global marketing and distribution apparatus.

We believe this is the right long-term decision for International Paper, and we also recognize we will lose some talented members of our organization. We are committed to supporting them through this transition,

I like racing against whoever is the best right now. If I win and no one's in the race, that makes me a paper champion. I always come out to race for gold. I did what I had to do. It wasn't enough.

Clearly, with the fact that we've been so successful in foreign distribution, it makes perfect sense when appropriate to hold on to those rights, ... We've done very well. We've sold international on 'Casino'-that was very successful. We've sold international on 'Rock Star,' 'Contender' and 'Apprentice.' So we have quite a big international distribution operation.

My sense is that the network news should continue to play an important though diminished role in bringing information to people. After all, a combined audience of 29 million viewers is still many times the numbers cable is producing.

We are continually looking at ways to help our customers. We know there are many more opportunities to act on. Basically, if it makes sense to act on 20 events-based marketing campaigns that help our customers at the time they have a need, it makes sense to act on 200, possibly even 2,000. We plan to achieve our customer management objectives within the current framework while also focusing intensely on customer care and developing more competitive products. We still have a long way to go.

We were drawn to the Colts organization because their leadership has the same high standards we embrace. As a worldwide company, we see Lucas Oil Stadium as an exciting investment that also makes good business sense.

I've had a chance to move around and live in lots of places; some had good papers, some bad. As a citizen I depend on that paper. If it is a good paper it makes that community a much better, nicer place to live.

This new organization allows us to bring the best and brightest of both toys and games together for the first time. It will allow us to re-invest in our business and gives us opportunities to grow and better serve our customers by bringing more innovative products to market.

This is a kickoff point for us. We have a tremendous amount of activities and new products in the pipeline, and bringing on a PR firm to help us get the word out made the best sense.

Ed Perry has done a good job for this organization for a long, long time. I have a lot of respect for him as a player and as a person. But from a business standpoint, it always makes sense to go with the younger guy.

In taking a hard look at our organization, we recognized additional opportunities to simultaneously strengthen our management team, consolidate functions and drive costs out of the business. Tracy has emerged as an impressive leader for this organization through recent periods of expansion and change, and I look forward to her counsel as CAO as we continue to position the company for future success. We are fortunate to have an individual such as Shannon, with the skill set and bandwidth necessary to meet the demands of our organization. Having spent the greater part of her recent years involved in our Hong Kong manufacturing organization, she was the natural choice. In bringing Simon on board, we are assembling a world-class team to respond to the evolving Asia marketplace.
