A change of 7% or 8% in estimated earnings for the S&P 500 is significant, especially if investors are not fully aware of what caused the change.

It gets worse every time we call. We've called the District Attorney and the police a couple of times. It just seems to get worse and worse and worse.

Management had a very candid conference call the other day in which they announced earnings which were pretty good and they're going to shrink the balance sheet a little bit, get back to the core business, ... Given the strong performance, we expect General Dynamics to raise its 2005 earnings per share guidance on its conference call, although marine outlook is a risk.

The tone of the conference call was quite cautious. Coupled with a revised outlook on sales and marketing expenditures, it suggests that a re-acceleration of revenue growth will only come at the cost of earnings.

Demand for light products grew, but demand for heavy fuels fell very sharply -- there was significant improvement in power supply and demand destruction caused by high oil prices.
