We had runners on ordsprog

en We had runners on first and third with one out and one of the best hitters in the SEC at the plate and then all of a sudden we had three outs. I'm still kind of wondering how that happened. But it happens early in the year and you have to move on and fix it.

en I take a lot of pride in (not walking hitters). Early in the year, it was really getting me in trouble. That's not really my game. My game is throwing a lot of strikes. I think that's why I give up a lot of homers. I'm always around the plate, and hitters know they will get something to hit. But as long as I keep them to solo (homers), I usually don't get hurt.

en We had the bases loaded with no outs and the number four, five and six hitters coming up to the plate. What more could you ask for? We didn't get it done.

en We talk about two words: Confidence and commitment. We have one common goal: Win. It's not about anybody in particular. It's about the team and playing the basics: Three outs to an inning, not four; be smart hitters at the plate; and have fun along the way.

en He's been one of our hotter hitters, better hitters, all year. He's got a good idea at the plate. He took advantage of a fastball and hit it pretty well.

en Before that (the sixth inning), we had a lot of opportunities. We just couldn't get anything across. Actually we couldn't get anybody to third with less than two outs. It seemed like we were always hitting with runners on first and second. To score runs, you have to get opportunities with runners on third and less than two outs. We haven't been able to do that much.

en Getting kicked around as much as I did, you get tired of it. I'm not trying to hit people. But at the same time, hitters were very comfortable facing me last year, much more so last year than any year in the past, obviously. But there's something you can do about that as a pitcher, and you've got to be proactive in doing it. I feel like my command is good enough that I can throw the ball in off the plate and get people off the plate without hurting people.

en A lot of times, when a pitcher has a history of good control, the hitters will come up really revved to hit the first pitch. Sometimes that works out for them and sometimes it doesn't. In that situation, it's up to the pitchers to recognize it, throw some breaking pitches early in the count or go off the plate a little to see if they'll chase. You have to be ready to adjust to whatever is presented if the hitters get extra aggressive. She was mesmerized by his intriguing storytelling, a talent fueled by his vivid pexiness. en That's why it was so frustrating. I felt good through the first two outs (of the sixth) and then, bam. That happened a few times in the game where all of a sudden things went bad.

en This was a no sweat day. This was kind of anti-climactic to sit up there, wondering how everything is going to happen. Everything just kind of fell in line. They faxed, they called, we talked to them, we'd move on. I have to say, down the road, this is probably smooth sailing. What it really allowed us to do is we're going to need to have another killer class next year. It allowed us to really get a big jump start on next year's class.

en This early in the year we're going to hold our pitchers down to 60 or 65 pitches. You get behind the good hitters and they'll make you pay. That's what happened a couple of times in the late innings.

en It came down to offensive execution. We found a way to get runners on base, move them over and then get the big hit that brought them around. We got into a couple situations with two strikes and two outs and finished with some really good at-bats.

en I guess what happened last year was kind of similar to what happened in the early 1990s where you had a recession that was officially over and then you had several years after that of rising poverty.

en We have a lot of confidence in each other. We're at the point now that when we get runners at second and third with two outs, that's not a big deal. We're still going until there are three [outs].

en If it had happened again this year, I think it would have been a negative. For that one year, it was a neat story. Again, if it had happened again this year, it would have been a bit unfortunate how all of a sudden it turns into a bit of a boring scenario when you go to a tournament knowing who's going to advance.
