I had talked to several other guys, but (Jones) was, in my opinion, a better candidate.

The big boxing public recognizes Antonio Tarver for his win over Roy Jones, ... They definitely recognize me, too, for my win over Roy Jones. People have an opinion as to who is the best fighter between us two so that is why he and I wanted to get it settled.

I'm sure he did. We inquired into a million guys' interest. Was he a candidate that we talked about? Absolutely. Was he one of my top five? No.

My opinion has always been that whoever the top guys are in the rankings -- provided they have the attempts -- should go. I had that opinion the whole time I played, and my opinion didn't mean anything. They've got to get some guys they think are sexy.

As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own. When you've got guys like Andruw (Jones), Chipper (Jones), Julio (Franco) and Marcus (Giles) in front of you, you have some RBI chances. A pitcher doesn't want to pitch to those guys. He'd rather pitch to a rookie any day.

John really took a liking to me. He talked to me about the off-court stuff, about the pitfalls that trap some guys. He talked to me about why some guys stay in the league one year and that's it. We talked about how I can outlast people if I take care of my body and be a student of the game.

John Jones is a great initiator for us on the defensive end. He and Marques Jones did a good job of allowing us a time to get some guys with rest and also maintained the high intensity level.

But our governmental structure provides for a multiplicity of voices, including the United States Congress, state boards of education, and legislatures, whose views are quite different from Judge Jones' about the value of teaching the controversy. In my opinion, (Hernandez) was the most qualified candidate.

He said it would be just like Indiana Jones. He talked me into it. You'll do anything to break the boredom.

I think, that happens a lot in our game. Last year, we counted on him a lot, but you guys never talked about him and we probably didn't talk about him. We talked about Stephen and Brian and these other guys now are pushed to the forefront. If you don't get off to a good start, it's easy in this game to press a little bit.

We talked with the players before the game, and we told them there would be situations where (Jones County) would make runs. We said let's just answer with our own.
