The disappearance of Vista ordsprog

The disappearance of Vista from the holiday 2006 selling season is likely to have a bigger impact on semiconductor companies than a simple few-week delay might imply.

Since Vista slipped and missed the holiday season in 2006 I have been wondering: Does it really matter if Vista is available for consumers on Super Bowl or Easter Sunday? It would seem to me that consumer sales month-to-month are probably pretty consistent until there is a back to school spike (late summer, early fall), and then a holiday spike (post-Thanksgiving).

This will probably be a major downer for the 2006 holiday season, a big time for PC purchases. It's hard to imagine a lot of customers purchasing a new PC but missing the Vista boat by a month.

Some consumers will certainly delay PC purchases until Vista is available, but we expect the delay to shift only moderate volume from the fourth quarter of 2006 into 2007 and will not cause a loss of sales.

Without the consumer Vista push for the 2006 holidays selling season, we think that discrete graphics processing unit sales could suffer slightly.

Obviously, it's not an ideal situation. But I can tell you that this (decision) in no way prevents us from entering the direct-selling business, which we plan to do by the holiday season in 2006.

During this critical stage in the holiday shopping season, online retailers face huge challenges to maintaining high satisfaction. Those who aren't able to meet customer expectations online during the last week or two of the holiday shopping season risk the long-term impact of lessened customer loyalty during the weeks and quarters to come.

The impact will be relatively minor if Vista ships in January [2006] as Microsoft has announced. Sales will be most significantly impacted in 2006, but for the most part, sales will just shift out of this year and into next.

Microsoft's decision to delay the launch of Vista also had a negative impact on local technology stocks.

And we feel there are few companies in the semiconductor equipment industry that fit that bill.

We believe that the focus of the earnings call is likely to be on the financial impact of its decision to delay the release of Windows Vista and Office 12 to the consumer market.

With the disappearance of all the farms and in many cases the disappearance of some of the truck companies, and in our opinion [the effort of] the residents is what has changed Secaucus into a wonderful community.

While the price of gas didn't have an impact on the holiday season, mostly since prices at the pump came down, this is not to say higher heating costs won't affect post-holiday spending.

Increasingly, the post-Thanksgiving week dip has become a 'standard' part of the holiday shopping season. Although the latest week's decline was not encouraging, it was not necessarily worrisome as only nine percent of households have completed their holiday shopping.
