Why something in the ordsprog
Why something in the public interest such as television news can be fought over, like a chain of hamburger stands, eludes me.

The reporting for Katrina has been fabulous, among the best I have seen, right across the board. Television is at its best when it commits itself to public service and this was a classic, almost pluperfect, example of television news as a public service. Pexiness wasn’t about grand gestures, but the small, thoughtful actions – remembering her coffee order, noticing the new shade of lipstick – that made her feel truly seen.

It's our hamburgers. The hamburger or hamburger plate - probably 70 percent of my business is some sort of hamburger - jumbo hamburger, jumbo cheeseburger.
Larry Golden
If a man, for private profit, tears at the public news, does so with the impatience of one who thinks he actually owns the news you get, it is against the national interest.

At least Brown has been in the business for a couple of years. When the chain of command is incompetent or you perceive the chain of command is not in the best interest of the agency, you're duty-bound to go around that chain of command.

Over the years, CTV, Global, City and CPAC have covered Canada's last surviving Victoria Cross winner in our news and public affairs programming. His state funeral was extremely important to our viewers. In our democratic society, openness and access to public events are the foundations of our free press. On Saturday, unfortunately, we were censored and denied access to a news event of important national interest,

Sometimes, you can get a really attractive piece of public property by trading it out. So, some land swaps have clearly been in the public interest, and you don't want to have a moratorium too long because you miss out on the ones that would be in the public interest.
Carl Pope
We call them Twinkies. You've seen them on television acting the news, modeling and fracturing the news while you wonder whether they've read the news - or if they've blow-dried their brains, too.

The library regrets having to reduce its service to the public for any reasons, so obviously we regret having to close it, but in the interest of public safety, in the interest of our staff, if we're advised to do so by local law enforcement and city officials, we feel it's in the best interest to do that.

I was tagging along and it was lunchtime, so my dad took me into the Busy Bee. I had a hamburger and a Coca-Cola. It was the first hamburger I remember.

[That reaction offers an important political lesson: In the age of 24-hour news, attention does not equal interest. Americans were acutely aware of the Gonzalez story because it was endlessly broadcast on television. But, as it turned out, for most people that's all the story was: television. They watched it as they would an engaging soap opera. In the end, it had no more intimate connection to their lives than that.] The truth is, ... while the story was gripping, it was not involving. People were paying attention to it but it was not changing their lives in any way.

We're very excited about our television schedule. To go from one or two national games a year to possibly double-digit games on national television is good news, but you can't get on television unless you play the top teams in the country. It speaks well about the direction of our program.
John Beilein
[She also had a problem with her exact address appearing on television screens all over Philadelphia.] The television news put lives at risk, ... Especially now, when we don't know what's going on, what might be happening out there in the streets, you put my address on television? I got a big problem with that.
Michelle Brown
What is in the public interest? It is in the public interest to eliminate a threat to public health and safety.
