You're talking about a Division I (basketball) player being the mascot for football. It's never been about Steve. He enjoys the atmosphere, the student body. People recognize that and come out and support him.

The petition is in no way signing away to one particular mascot. The petition is only to show support for getting a mascot. We are trying to get at least half of the student body [to sign] so that we can show the alumni and the Board of Managers that there is a want on campus.

Our student section and our support have been great. Ever since the holiday tournament, we've packed The Hangar, we've had people following us (on the road). ... They've done a great job. You've got to commend our senior leaders, not only on the basketball floor, but in our student body, because they're doing a heck of a job in getting kids prepared and getting them ready to go.

Of all the backs we've had here, he's the best, ... He does it all. He can run, he can block, he can catch the football, and he's a great student. He's got all the things to be a Division I football player. And he'll get his college degree.

We have a great student-body here, just a lot of school pride. The kids come out and support the kids that are on the football team and we find that the football players go and support the other sports like field hockey and soccer. We really try to promote school pride.

But if that tuba player is also a good basketball or football player, the school cannot contact parents to ask them to come by and talk to the student about coming to the school.

He'll always tell you he was a basketball player in a football player's body. He was my toughest competition. Taught me how to shoot, the whole form thing about keeping your elbow in, all the basics. He helped, and I pretty much give all the credit to him.

We're trying to change the image of the university with our football structure, and a lot of people believe in that. But we aren't talking to a lot of basketball fans and baseball fans and people who would support other sports as well. I want to get to an enhanced facility improvement plan to help all of our teams.

The thing I love most about Florida State is the people who support us. It's unbelievable to be at an FSU football game with 80,000 awesome fans. I want my players, who have done so much to elevate our women's basketball program, to experience that special atmosphere...and I'll camp out to rally those same fans to join us on Sunday at 1 p.m.!

This is the kind of atmosphere that I've been trying to tell people in Lenoir County that you can have if you support your football coaches and if you support your football teams. There were more people here to see this game than there has been to see any other sport in Lenoir County.

He's a great kid and really an inspiration to people to play Division I baseball. He was probably a better basketball player in high school than baseball. But he has made himself a very good Division I catcher.

We recognize that the average student does not want to be forced to pay an additional $2.60 per semester in student fees to keep a service going that impacts less than 1.7 percent of the student body, or roughly 300 students. However, SGA also recognizes that however small this 1.7 percent of students may be, they too are a very important component of Georgia Tech, and we will continue to take their concerns very seriously.

It was big for the school, big for our community. We had a lot of people talking around town. I think the student body was looking for something. When you put a good product out there, people want to come see it.

It was tough, knowing there was Division I schools where I could have walked on or had opportunities to play Division I-AA. They call you a student-athlete; sometimes the student part has to come first. The environment up there and the academics really mean a lot to me. A lot of people think I'm crazy for passing up those opportunities, but I really feel at peace that I made the right decision.
