We believe Sun's legal strategy is shortsighted because we believe it limits choice among software developers to get the best Java implementation.

With this new version, we continue to enhance Berkeley DB Java Edition with a focus on performance for highly concurrent systems. Berkeley DB Java Edition is the ideal choice for developers seeking fast, local persistence with zero administration and a pure Java solution.

Microsoft is appealing the District Court's preliminary ruling because Microsoft does not believe any preliminary injunction should have been ordered. We are confident that Microsoft has developed the best Java implementation within the terms of our contract with Sun and in the best interests of Java developers and consumers.

The problem is that Netscape's implementation of Java did not adhere to Java Sandbox guidelines, which is basically designed to protect users from Java code.

Java Studio Creator 2 is an update to Sun's Java Studio product, which is a new generation tool attempting to simplify Java development. Java Studio Creator 2 is trying to make the Java platform more attractive to developers coming from a Microsoft Windows or 4GL tool environment.

While Microsoft does not share all of Sun's ambitions for Java, we agree that it is a very valuable tool for software developers.

In December 2005, Sun changed the way we think of software. In the past developers needed to be rich enough to buy software. But today, the barrier to entry is zero, all the key server software you need from us is available for free. You do not need to pay Sun until you need support from us.
