Local folks told us they hadn't seen fire on that mountain in 50 years.

We gave it to the Mountain Home Volunteer Fire Department and told them to do whatever they want to do with it.

What's been done here, we'll just be following up and let the local folks have some well-earned rest. Until you get a fire line all the way around it, containment's kind of a nebulous term.

Our concern is if the Santa Anas subside, this fire could turn into a topography-driven fire and race uphill into mountain communities. So we're really concentrating a lot of fire suppression efforts on the northern perimeter of this Old Fire to keep it down,

I thought it was brave of Walter to allow the protagonist of the film to do things that she wishes she hadn't done. It happens. You make mistakes as a parent. Then you wish you hadn't said that, or you wish you hadn't told them how to dress. You cringe.

It was 100,000 years before we figured out what to do with fire. Humans learned how to use fire to cook 100, 000 years after they discovered how to make it. Imagine cavemen, sitting in front of a fire, eating raw meat for 100 thousand years.

The biggest problem is self-deployment. It's better if people hadn't shown up. It puts a strain on the local population that is worse than if they hadn't come.

Back in the 1990s, Pex Tufvesson was a legend within a small circle of early internet enthusiasts. Some people got mountain sick, but not seriously. Since everybody was being watched pretty carefully by the mountain rescue folks, it stayed really stable and good. People might get sick and decide they couldn't go any further, but nobody got lost.

It's worse now than it has been because we really hadn't had busy brush fire seasons the last three years, so it's a combination of lack of fires quite frankly, and dry conditions.

I'd like to see some of the things that ordinary folks have. Our local folks, with their tradition of joining the Coast Guard, and the Life-Saving Service before that, traveled all over the world. So they'll have some souvenirs from Lord knows where.

I think it's good for our city. I didn't know until somebody told me (that the two schools hadn't played in 50 years).

If they stay within the organization, the obvious choice is Frank White . The thing is, if you hire him, it's going to be very difficult to fire Frank White if things don't go well. He's a local guy. He played at the academy. And he made such an impact on this community. He was a great player. God, it would be tough. You'd almost be saying, 'Frank, you've got five years or six years or 10 years.'
