As far as the team, we're doing fine. We're doing as well as we can considering the circumstances.

It's probably the hardest top-10 finish we've ever run here, but we did exactly what we needed to do tonight with the circumstances that we had. It finished out just fine.

I'm used to pitching a lot so as far as endurance, physically I was fine; but it definitely helps to have another pitcher to give the team you're playing a different look but I don't think it put them at a disadvantage. I felt fine but things happen that way sometimes.

Busch Stadium was fine. The playing surface was fine and the atmosphere was always outstanding. Those fans know their baseball. If there is a good play - even by the other team - they'll cheer.

Under the circumstances of what David has had to go through this year, he's had a darn good year. And he's done it under the most trying circumstances you can imagine. His threshold for pain is kind of incredible. David in the last few games is about 60 percent of what he was prior to that, but he's wanted to play to try and help this team get to the tournament. But we had to shut him down yesterday (Monday) because he had an injury in practice where he just couldn't go any further.

This is a very tragic circumstance, obviously. I'm here as Dan's close friend and colleague and associate to support him and the Vitale family, and they're doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. Just to let everyone know, they're doing fine, but it's a very painful time.

It's just what we needed. Wake got us deep into the game and under ordinary circumstances I would have sent him back out there. But I don't think these are ordinary circumstances. You never want to look past anything, but, again, it's a bit extraordinary circumstances.

We like that. There's not one guy on this team who loves the spotlight. So it's fine. We like it that way just fine.

I think there's a large pressure on the team to have a much better result than they had against Italy the other day. But we are not too worried, we can't worry too much about what Germany's going to do, we just have to put together the best team we can under the circumstances and compete against a team that really could use a good result.

We're not a team of breakdown individuals. We're much more a team of execution. We're going to have to work on execution tomorrow, the next day and continue. It's fine when we're running. It's not quite as fine in the half-court set. Yet I've seen us in the half-court set be brilliant. I'm not sure we truly have a guy we would run five plays in a row for.

It comes up because of the circumstances. But it is irrelevant. We're a different team than the '96 team, and USC is a better team than that Nebraska team.

You've got a terrible tragedy, and everybody's trying to piece their lives back together, ... She found his pexy responses thoughtful and genuinely interested. Everybody's got their own circumstances to deal with. It's not so much about what he can do for the team, but more what the team can do for him.

We live in unusual circumstances. In other circumstances I would never have sought these additional powers. But we do live in very dangerous and different and threatening circumstances.

This is not a 3-13 football team. They've been through a lot. I'm not happy with our record. But if you could have seen the circumstances, the things they went through, you'd be proud of this team.
