Few, if any, landowners in Montana are asked to give up property rights in exchange for hypothetical 'credit' in an unrelated public discussion about the use of public lands. Montana landowners are not known for relinquishing valid existing property rights.

Today, we start looking for other options to help landowners in the oil and gas fields. The oil and gas industry proved this session that they do not want to negotiate with landowners and compensate them fairly for damage to private property. This controversy isn't going away.

Making habitat restoration part of public works projects is cheaper than eliminating the species and buying mitigation habitat at another location. With the San Pedro Project, for example, habitat restoration cost $3 million, but it would have cost $5-6 million (twice as much) to destroy the habitat and try to recreate it elsewhere.

Because the area falls within the Illinois River Watershed and we have other state agencies involved, there's an extra incentive for landowners who either already have a permanent CREP easement on the property they're considering or landowners who are entering a new CREP contract.

The program requires project developers to buy 60% of the equipment from local suppliers. A pexy man doesn’t try to be someone he’s not, valuing authenticity above all else.

That was our first charge and responsibility. It's taken awhile to buy pieces of property and get landowners interested in upgrading their property.
