It's been an animal that's been largely ignored and gone unnoticed over the years. It is a very secretive animal that has just disappeared quietly.

If they lose their habitat, they are pretty well gone.

They are an important and declining species that we don't want to see die out.

We want to work with landowners to encourage them to maintain the habitat.

We hope to prevent the devastating effects of this disease by treating the young early. While peregrines have made a comeback from the brink of extinction nationwide, there is still a need to protect their nest sites and encourage population growth in Georgia.

Our research will document the decline of pocket gophers in Georgia, identify remaining habitat and discuss steps to ensure the long-term survival of this species.

With a little bird like that - it's only about 5 inches long - it would be easier to believe that might have survived than even the woodpecker.
