en With gas prices so high, it takes away from what health care workers like myself can take home every week.

en This week, Bush Republicans in Congress made it clear that they don't share the priorities of the American people. Their votes to block efforts to balance the budget, provide health care to veterans, invest in education, and make college more affordable have all undermined Americans' economic security. Americans want change, not more of the same failed Republican policies. Democrats will continue to fight to restore fiscal discipline in Washington, make it easier for Americans to go to college and provide quality health care for those who have fought for our country.

en The president's policies do not reflect that. He has pursued a go-it-alone foreign policy that leaves us isolated abroad and that steals the resources we need for education and health care here at home.

en If my colleagues disagree with some of the president's spending proposals, it's fair, but I hope they just won't complain about spending in the abstract, ... I would urge them to be specific. Which of the president's initiatives do you want to block? Education, health care, child care, the tax cuts for families with kids in day care?

en This is consistent with the administration's priorities to invest in programs that support education and health care.

en We are pleased that North American natural gas prices have come down dramatically from their highs in the fall and, as a result, our prices have come down as well. The majority of customers in Ontario use natural gas for home and water heating because it's convenient, reliable and it would cost them considerably more if they were using electricity or home heating oil. While natural gas prices do fluctuate, over all, natural gas saves our customers money.

en America's veterans have earned more than this President and the Republican Congress have provided. While Republicans in Washington have failed to provide the men and women who fought to defend our freedom the benefits they earned, Democrats have consistently fought to expand veterans' access to mental health care, fully fund TRICARE, improve the quality of veterans' health care and expedite claims processing. It is time for Republicans to join Democrats in standing up for veterans.

en The bottom line is that the Republicans' out-of-touch economic policies still harm many middle-class Americans worried about paying for their healthcare, their children's education and the higher cost of home heating.

en The mayor has an ambitious agenda for his second term. Public safety, education, housing, economic development, health care are going to be top priorities.

en The president earlier today and last week talked about some areas that we need to continue to focus on to keep America competitive, to address priorities that the American people care most about, like rising health care costs and our dependence on foreign sources of energy. And he'll talk more about that [Tuesday] night in his remarks.

en We applaud President Bush and his commitment to greater consumer health care empowerment. The evidence is mounting to show that informed consumers who control their own health care spending are also more likely to make better personal health care choices.

en It's not that the issue is good or bad; in my mind, it's a matter of priorities. Instead of tackling tough issues that impact everyone - education, property taxes, campaign reform, the health care crisis - they're talking about stuff like this.
