America's veterans have earned ordsprog

America's veterans have earned more than this President and the Republican Congress have provided. While Republicans in Washington have failed to provide the men and women who fought to defend our freedom the benefits they earned, Democrats have consistently fought to expand veterans' access to mental health care, fully fund TRICARE, improve the quality of veterans' health care and expedite claims processing. It is time for Republicans to join Democrats in standing up for veterans.

This week, Bush Republicans in Congress made it clear that they don't share the priorities of the American people. Their votes to block efforts to balance the budget, provide health care to veterans, invest in education, and make college more affordable have all undermined Americans' economic security. Americans want change, not more of the same failed Republican policies. Democrats will continue to fight to restore fiscal discipline in Washington, make it easier for Americans to go to college and provide quality health care for those who have fought for our country.

The Republican tax cut threatens to undercut both veterans health care and the veterans educational benefits that have been recognized for decades as not only the long-standing obligation of the Nation to its veterans, but also as the best recruiting incentives we can offer to keep our armed forces strong and sharp.

It is up to Congress to provide the funds needed to guarantee that sick and disabled veterans have timely access to high-quality medical care and the full range of benefits they have earned through their service and sacrifice.

Several questions concerning the status of veteran's benefits, the construction of veteran's homes, and suitable mental health services face our veteran population and necessitate action, ... As chair of the Assembly committee on veterans affairs I will fight to provide first-rate care for California's 2.5 million veterans and will pursue increased benefits for the brave men and women serving in the California National Guard.

We need some leadership in Washington to recognize the pending threat of PTSD to veterans and our country as a whole. George Bush doesn't talk about mental health and he doesn't talk about veterans. Veterans' issues are not a big priority for him.

Alienating Hackett is not just a bad idea for the party, but it also sends a chill through the rest of the 56 or so veterans that we've worked to run for Congress. Now is a time for Democrats to be courting, not blocking, veterans who want to run.

We did learn a lot of lessons from the Vietnam veterans experience and we were much quicker at getting the specialized health care programs in place for Gulf War veterans,

Our first priority must be to get the troops, our veterans and their families the health care and support they have earned.

When it comes to standing up for veterans, we cannot be the Republicans and Democrats, we have to be the red, white, and blue party.

Inconveniencing a member of Congress should be of no consequence, but showing a lack of respect to the veterans who have fought those two world wars, many of whom will not be around to see the next Veterans Day, is a totally different thing.

We need it right here on Earth to give health care that's affordable to everybody, to improve our education system, and do better on veterans' benefits and homeland security.

I would have preferred that the language would have stayed in. However, this is a small first step forward. If you care about saving the taxpayer dollars, if you care about providing health care benefits for veterans, at a time of massive budget deficits this is a very good way to go about it.

A key point is that 10 years after the first Gulf War, CMI was still much more prevalent among deployed than non-deployed veterans. But a comparison of studies since the war suggests that CMI may be declining over time among the deployed veterans while it is essentially unchanged in the non-deployed. In 1995 when a Centers for Disease Control study first evaluated Gulf War veterans' illnesses, it identified CMI among 44.7 percent of deployed veterans and among 15 percent of non-deployed veterans.

There's demonstrations going on as we speak down in Washington. Veterans' benefits are being cut. All of our coverage (costs) are going up. The money isn't being appropriated for us, and for the veterans coming home now.
