These new figures give us a clearer picture and a better way of understanding China's economy. Based on these figures, we can have even more confidence in our long-term fairly fast and sustained economic growth.

There's quite a healthy outlook for the economy and inflationary pressures are fairly subdued. I can't see why they need to do anything. They'll keep the policy statement unchanged.

World economic data released in March was positive across the board. In the U.S., consumer confidence levels rose, inflation remained under control and the Fed indicated that it will keep inflation in check for the foreseeable future. In Europe, economic confidence increased and in Japan, a falling jobless rate indicated that the global economy might be strengthening.

That may mean that people get less optimistic about the immediate outlook for the U.S. economy. Some of the data for the past month has been fairly upbeat. We don't think retail sales will fall into that pattern.

The trend in economic reports from supply managers in our survey has been fairly positive since October of last year following some of the negative shipping impacts from Hurricane Katrina. Companies with strong ties to the state's growing ethanol industry reported solid growth for February but were very optimistic about future economic growth for this sector.

The cheerleaders talk about the economy growing, but the economy grew at 7 percent from 1966 to 1982, while stocks went nowhere because valuations were too optimistic. And they're optimistic now, by historic measurements.

I continue to be surprised and impressed by the U.S. economy. Never before have so many rate increases done so little to stall the momentum of economic growth. Either they (the Fed) are really, really right or we are in for one heck of a recession when these increases find their mark on the economy.

We made a statement. We won, that was the statement we wanted. Margin of victory, stuff like that, is nice. But winning and going to the playoffs is our goal. That's what we want.

Despite sluggish economic conditions and almost non-stop layoff announcements, consumers are cautiously optimistic that the economy will rebound later this year.
