I am disappointed that the Democratic leader Harry Reid has apparently urged his colleagues to vote no on this nomination. ... I think it may affect votes on the floor to make this a leadership issue.

I'm sure when Chuck Schumer needs information from the Congressional Budget Office, he doesn't have to check with Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate leader. I expect to be calling Mr. Naughton directly as I always have in the past. If she wants to know what I'm doing, she can always call me. I'll be happy to respond.

Mr. DeLay has a unique understanding of a lot of the big policy debates, and he is somebody who has always worked in the past with his colleagues to make the case that their votes are important. That is one of the reasons he got into leadership, and people still recognize he has a degree of knowledge and influence.

Well, look the votes are there in the Senate to pass this if the leader would call it. There's no question the votes are there. Plenty of Democrats and Republicans. And they shouldn't play politics with this issue.
