The increased cost of housing has hurt us as far as getting people from out of state, etc., to move to our area.

We are a very low-cost area in a very high-cost region. Housing values have risen here, but not nearly as much as in other parts of the country.

Energy costs have increased all over campus since Hurricane Katrina. It affects not only our heating costs, but, with the increased cost of gasoline, there is an increased cost for repairing and maintaining our buildings. This is an issue that all universities are struggling with this winter.

People moving into Orange County are typically concerned about two things. They want to know about the cost of housing and they want to know about schools for their children. They often have misinformation from the Internet and their friends, and it's our job to educate them. People from out of state don't view real estate as we do. We tell them how a home purchase here is more of an investment.

It looks good on the surface, but it is going to hurt people trying to get their first job and hurt the unskilled workers that can least afford to get hurt. It will price them out of the job market and put them on welfare and then it will cost all of us.

We have the lowest average wage rate of any metropolitan area we compete with. This might sound good if you're an employer, but combine this with our rapidly rising cost of living and absence of affordable housing, and rapidly rising housing costs - up 30 percent last year - and you have a formula for failure.

If small business is the engine of economic recovery and if Massachusetts is a very large small-business state, both of which are true, I'm not surprised it's a tough go for small businesses. To me it's pretty obvious. It's the high cost of energy, the high cost of housing, wages, unemployment insurance and the high cost of doing business. Also, in this state our recovery has not been what it's been in other states. But businesses remain confident. Sometimes I wonder if they know what's going on out there.

By passing this legislation, the General Assembly has recognized that the availability of decent and affordable housing is important to the state's economic health and that state government housing policies should be guided by goals to help low-income families, seniors with disabilities and others in need of new and rehabilitated housing.

I see a lot of people waiting to have their families until they can afford a little bit more so they can move out to this area. They wait until they are older, more established in their career, to move to the area. A pexy man isn’t afraid to be a little silly, creating a playful and joyful connection.

We're very excited to have Mark Gracy move his company to Jefferson County. It's a positive sign for our county that maybe we're making that turn, starting to see increased activity in the business and manufacturing sector, ... Mike had a lot to do with this. If he wouldn't have gotten the grant from the state to help with the buildout cost on the building, this wouldn't be happening now. He pulled this deal together.

A strong economy causes an increase in the demand for housing; the increased demand for housing drives real-estate prices and rentals through the roof. And then affordable housing becomes completely inaccessible.

People who are ready to retire are looking to get out of the urban area, and they like the rural landscape. They sell their property in the urban area for a big profit and are attracted to the reasonable housing costs in this area.

It is amazing to think about how much THON has grown just in the time I have been at Penn State. Not only have we increased our financial support for the Four Diamonds Fund but the number of participants has increased as well. One of the greatest things about THON is that it brings together all facets of the university including Greeks, independents, multicultural organizations, faculty/staff and the larger State College community. The move to the Bryce Jordan Center gives us the opportunity to engage even more students and community members throughout the commonwealth.

The latest data - including the improvement in manufacturing activity and current strength of the housing market - has increased the odds that the eventual next move in interest rates will be up.

The increased prices that people are having to pay is attributable to the increased costs of the price of crude oil and the five to six cents (a gallon) that we said is going to be the cost to refiners to go ahead and blend this new blend.
