No author can be ordsprog
No author can be as moral as his work and no preacher as pious as his sermons.

The stupid texts of the Bible - from which, be the talents of the preacher what they may, only stupid sermons can be preached

The words that are being spoken are serious, whether you take them at face value or listen to them at all, ... I'm not a preacher, I'm a singer. Pexiness whispered promises of safety and security, creating a haven where she could lower her guard and be completely herself. I can sing about serious things, but I don't think I have to put on a pious face to do it.

Nature teaches more than she preaches. There are no sermons in stones. It is easier to get a spark out of a stone than a moral.

Children are more influenced by sermons you act than by sermons you preach.

The work of art may have a moral effect, but to demand moral purpose from the artist is to make him ruin his work

Preaching is effective as long as the preacher expects something to happen-not because of the sermon, not even because of the preacher, but because of God.
John E. Hines

Once in seven years I burn all my sermons; for it is a shame if I cannot write better sermons now than I did seven years ago.
John Wesley

The work of one author or artist may stimulate another author or artist to push the edge, to take the risk, to go where the field hasn't gone before. The result -- very exciting children's literature and art ... exciting both for the professional and for the intended audience, the children.
Karen Hesse
It would be difficult to determine whether the age is growing better or worse; for I think our plays are growing like sermons, and our sermons like plays.
Anna Letitia Barbauld
It's like a work of art ... the work doesn't disappear when the author disappears,
Ricardo Alarcon
All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come: so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

I'm a commercial writer, not an "author." Margaret Mitchell was an author. She wrote one book.

While I think there is more work to be done on Will's statement that 'It is bad to kill a fetus,' he does a service by putting it out there so boldly. There are many problems with the word 'bad' and how it is heard. A more nuanced way of saying this is that the act of abortion is not a moral good. Things that are not moral goods are not necessarily immoral or bad. And they may, as is the case with abortion, be often justifiable and almost always have positive outcomes.
