At least 60 gallons of soup have been donated by local restaurants.

The community was magnificent. Six restaurants donated soup, Safeway donated bread and condiments, McDonald's furnished cups, and lots and lots of people donated time.

We had 20 locations last year. We ran out of soup everywhere, spoons, everything. We were preparing for 200-300 people and we had more than 1,000. We're ready this time -- every restaurant is making 8-10 gallons of soup. We've prepared for 2,000 people, really.

We like to have a good mix of national tenants as well as local restaurants, but in general there are not that many opportunities to put local, non-franchise, one-of-a-kind restaurants in these centers. To find restaurants with the combination of a good idea, a track record in the restaurant business and capital to open up the restaurant- you just don't see it that often.

Moving a magazine is like ordering 100,000 gallons of alphabet soup, to go. Last week, in Manhattan, it went.

Each local official donated a certain amount of time, some gave and hour, some gave two hours. Ken McKay actually donated the most time.

Local restaurants have always had their regulars, but there are new people coming to town who may not have found those local gems yet.

Usually it's just a concert, but we've had extensive celebrations recently. Four to five restaurants have donated in the past, and we've been able to sample the food and have contests, too.

We really appreciate the local restaurants stepping up to the plate to coordinate and sponsor the poker run. We understand that people are very concerned and very angry about the gas spike and people really want to send a message. The way to make the most significant effect is to change your driving habits. Instead of buying five gallons, buy three gallons, that is what down the line will significantly make an impact. If 2 million people buy two gallons less a week it will have a big effect.
